MARYHILL FESTIVAL OF SPEED - GET READY HERE IT COMES!

Maryhill Festival of Speed coming June 30 through July 4.  If there was only one race a year, this is the race.  Maryhill is the Monaco of the IGSA.  An excruciating 3+ minute run with a perfect tuck and a decent line and you still might not qualify.

This is the deepest field of all downhill racing competition.  All the known talent and super stars will be there, along with a whole field of new comers that always surprise the fast guys.  New gear will be tested, new products will be defined, egos will be crushed and girlfriends will be stolen.  Thats all before the after party begins.  I'll be doing my best to bring you the blow by blow, day by day.

Be sure to watch for Team Tactis Riders, Keith Henderson, Calvin Staub, and Kyle Castaneda.  Especially look for podiums in the Classic Luge division.  This year as every year, I have muster up a Grom Squad of Norcal Talent.  Hoping to add to the graduating class of 2010.  As always Norcal offers a great pool of talent.  I will be proud to see these guys get their first chance at a World Class Downhill Race.  I will be monitoring and posting qualifying times and Podium Placements for all of our team riders and IGSA Super Stars.

Stay Tuned and Visit Often.

DAY 1 MARYHILL FESTIVAL OF SPEED

Beautiful weather 75-80 degrees with slight 10 mile per hour tail wind, track was fast and air was cool today.  Of the top 10 fastest racers, 3-4 of them had arrived today.  We expect the rest to arrive within the next couple of days..  James Kelley  "The American Dream" took down some blistering runs with Patrick Switzer, Scoot Smith and Vegas Mike.  The day was pretty much the  feel up session.  The top pros and the Team Tactis riders verified the dominace of the Orangatang Orange In Heats which may be the fast wheel for the event.  Team Greens Raggae laid low today but smoozed his way into the practice tomorrow to do a full day session with Team Tactis and do a little bit of coaching the line participation with all of the Junior Riders.  Calvin Staub had a great day of practice pimping a pair of American flag shorts on the outside of his leathers to let the canooks know that the americans are in the show.  Really hot runs in classic and street luge is getting us confident that TeamTactis is ready to rumble.  We are all way too tired and sunburned tonight and there won't be much of a party night since we all need to be there at 8am tomorrow.  All the new guys got a great taste of the hill so they will be ready to put it on tomrrow.  We will bring new reports, pictures and video asap.  Big Daddy report for track conditions, cool, dry and fast without a serious tail wind we may not get record speeds.
TEAM TACTIS FTW!

DAY 2 MARYHILL FESTIVAL OF SPEED

Day 2 practice  is in the books.   The weather and the wind may make it possible for yet another maryhill track record.  Team Tacts riders spent the whole morning getting "schooled" by Team Greens Ragge who unfortunately is not competing this year but volunteered his valuable time and his fabulous line to spank the team into shape for qualifying.  Calvin Staub spent the whole day skeezin into the wolf pack getting touchy feely with the top 10.  Calvin looks fast.  His Carbon Fiber Nemisis with Venom bushings, Poonami Trucks and Purple In Heats laid down some blistering runs.  The gnar highlight of the day was when Kyle and Keith wrapped up wheels just outside of Kowzers Corner taking each other out through the bales, and yes we did catch it on video.  After the ridonculous party last night and the ensuing rain this evening it  looks like its going to  be a chill evening to get ready for the race tomorrow to qualify.  Of course I said that last night but things heated up after I signed off!

Big Daddy has already steezed all the ot new setups and trucks including Mischo Urbans new products and will be bring back the skinny on all the pertinent improvements on equipment.

Today was "Oh Canada Day", so of course their had to be a Team Canada Run down the hill - A full on chinese downhill with over 25 riders with canadian flags including the cut ups of the notoriaus loco express  bombed the hill in honor of the Canadian special day!

Thats about it from the hill we will keep you posted.  I'll be back  tomorrow evening for Team Tactis qualifying times and the Top  qualifying times.

One new addition to the blog - We will have a Carneige Corner highlighting all the carniege of the day:
Today, Andy Lally is highlighted with his  gnar episode on the last corner.  Andy lost a wheel coming into the final turn of his last practice run throwing  his luge over 6 feet sideways twice, only to recover and cross the line ahead of the pack (epic speed wabble).  Thats racing.  Then he packed up his stuff and headed to Daytona to make his car race.  Don't worry though, Andy will be back on race day, pre-qualified in last place.

Thats it from Big Daddy - stay tuned for more highlights tomorrow!
